The challenge
What the venue needed
The Ivy Brasserie Chester occupies a Grade II listed building on Newgate Street, where the fabric dictates cabling routes, cabinet positions and access point mounting. As an Ivy Collection venue it also had to arrive on day one running the group’s established Active Directory, file structure and hosted SharePoint templates, with resilient city-centre connectivity and several suppliers coordinated around a fixed practical completion date, in a building with no existing IT infrastructure.
Our approach
What MicroNet delivered
- 01
Specified and configured an HPE Aruba CX switching core sized to the site, with VLAN segregation delivered to the group’s IP and VLAN template and manufacturer support cover on the core switching.
- 02
Completed predictive heat mapping from site floor plans to position the access points, then carried out a physical post-installation survey to verify coverage, balance signal and mitigate interference.
- 03
Added and documented every access point on MicroNet Global’s managed Ruckus cloud controller with the required SSIDs configured.
- 04
Liaised with the ISP to verify the fibre service type, bandwidth and delivery dates, and designed in 4G backup as failover with primary and backup managed SD-WAN devices in the main comms rack.
- 05
Supplied, imaged and configured the back-office estate, and built Active Directory, group policies and the file and folder structure on the hosted SharePoint platform to the templates agreed with the group’s in-house IT team.
- 06
Supplied and installed rack-mount UPS protection with temperature and humidity monitoring, published the patching schedule covering every third-party provider, coordinated the print and telephony installers, and provided onsite standby support through pre-opening, soft opening and public opening.
