The challenge
What the venue needed
Simpson's in the Strand is one of London's oldest and best known dining rooms, and its return was among the most closely watched openings of the year. The infrastructure had to be designed for a protected historic building where the fabric dictates where cabling, cabinets and access points can go, with a crowded provider list to bring into order, PCI compliance to meet, and a fixed opening date held across a six-month commitment period running alongside the main contractor's programme.
Our approach
What MicroNet delivered
- 01
MicroNet Global assigned a senior technical consultant and project manager for the build, reviewed the site build schedule with the main contractor, and reviewed floor plans covering systems, data, power and wireless locations.
- 02
Produced the network infrastructure design, comms rack specification and rack layout, and prepared wireless heat mapping and access point locations ahead of the cabling programme.
- 03
Designed for resiliency, availability and convergence across core, distribution and access layers, with comms room power management including UPS and environmental monitoring.
- 04
Defined network and user-level security policies, delivered PCI-compliant payment gateway integration, structured Microsoft 365 mailboxes and data services, and documented disaster recovery planning.
- 05
Determined and agreed each third party's scope of work before tender, reviewed the proposals received and recommended cost savings, taking no margin on third-party work.
- 06
Managed deployment, testing and commissioning, chaired weekly provider meetings, managed the soft and public openings, and closed the project through formal sign-off.

Outcome
What the venue got
Outcomes as published by MicroNet Global for this project.
One coherent infrastructure rather than seven separate ones, with every service designed onto a single converged network from the outset.
Defined scopes and comparable bids, with recommended savings passed to the client in full.
A resilient opening, with the connectivity changeover managed rather than improvised.
Compliance designed in from the start rather than retrofitted after opening.
Consolidated provider documentation transferred to operations at project close.
